Batik artist Karen Hendrikse lives a
simple and sustainable life in the
Southern Appalachian Mountains. Deeply
connected with Mother Earth, Father Sky
and the elements she journeys to a place
deep within to remember the Divine
feminine. Her batik tapestries are an
expression of the abundant beauty of all
of Creation and a universal prayer for
peace.
Karen paints with hot dripping wax on
silk, using brushes and a copper tool
called a ‘tjanting’. The parts covered
in wax resist the dye and remain the
original color. By repeating this
process, colorful designs are created.
